Nice topic Pooja. Thank you. There are a lot of students who move to management faculty from science at some point of their study; mostly afte +2 and bachelors. The first question that comes in the mind of students that wish to change faculty is the one outlined above.
I also studied science in +2 and later studied ACCA. This question and query came to my mind too. So let me give a short and quick answer to the query.
It is not really as problematic or tough to move from science to any other faculty or from management to humanities, education etc. The first few days are tough but once you start getting involved, you will easily start to feel comfortable. In every subjects (except science), the basics are really simple and easy to learn. The difficulties is to master them. Once you learn the basics you are literally indifferent from the students who actually came from management background.
Also, there is one advantage of coming from science background which applies to most of the students. Students studying science are more studious and laborious in studies than students from other faculties due to the toughness and vastness of course (in higher secondary level). Science students knowingly or unknowingly develop a strong studying habit. This will act as advantage while changing the faculties. This studying habit and studious nature will help to grasp the basics easily and efficiently.
After completing SLC (SEE), students are somewhat forced by parents or marks/grades obtained to choose the faculty. But after completing +2 or Bachelor’s degree, students are in a clear position to choose what they will be studying so it is basically student’s choice to continue the subjects or change to a completely different subject. Hence, psychologically they will be prepared to learn the new subject and will learn it quick since it is their own choice and decision.
Now lets talk about doing MBA after BS. Many students are doing this these days and getting placed in the Dean’s list too. There is no any issue to study management. Anyone with any educational background can study management at any level. If you have interest to learn, you can do it without any problem. The only problem is unfamiliar terms and theories which can be learned quickly.
Also, since there are a lot of students from science background in MBA, CA , ACCA and other courses, teachers will be teaching accordingly. The assumption that students know the basics will not apply to management classes unlike in science classes where it is almost impossible to cover all the basics of Physics, chemistry and biology in a limited time frame.
So, I would suggest the students who are from science and want to study CA, ACCA, CFA, MBA or other management courses or humanities, education to go for confidently. If others can do it, why can’t you?
