Job prospects and salary scale for nurses in Nepal and Abroad

Bsc Nursing is good course. But in Nepal I think there is not a great scope and future prospects. Hospitals pay very less to fresh nurses. I think freshers are only paid around 10000rs monthly. Another thing to do after doing nursing along with working in medicals/hospitals is to teach staff nurses and junior levels of bsc Nursing or BN nursing. it is easy to get chance to teach in nursing colleges. they also dont pay much salary but it will help you a lot in future. If you gain much experience and work nicely, you can make nicer career (not great) in Nepal as superitendent or head of nurses but earning a lot of money by staying in Nepal and working in hospital is very difficult task. But things are different abroad. Nurses have much respect and earning potential in developed countries like Australia, canada, Uk etc.

As said by #Ellysa, B.Sc. Nursing is a good course. since many hospitals are opening in Nepal (both in urban and rural areas), you will get a chance to serve as a nurse in those hospitals. Although salary for freshers is not as high as expectation but when you have experience of 2/3 years, i am sure you will get satisfactory salary. Generally hospitals pays 15,000+ salary for staff nurse and more for senior nurses.
Also if you don’t want to serve in hospital as a nurse, you can also make teaching as your profession. You can teach the junior level courses of nursing. I strongly agree with #Ellysa that if you go aboard, you will get much more salary. In Nepal, if you stay in Urban areas there may be the chance that you won’t get job but if you try for rural areas, you have much more chance of getting employed. Thank you

Thankyou @ellysa and @snforum mod for the replies. Got many information about salary scale of nurses in Nepal and other information about the nursing course. I have seen most of the nurses go abroad or wish to go abroad. is the situation of nursing course and nurse that bad in Nepal? Why almost all nurse of Nepal think of abroad. I get confused by these trends.

Most of the Nurses are underpaid and forced to work long hours  in most of the hospitals and clinics. There is no proper plans and  wage/salary policies to nurses like many other professions. The other fact is there is high demand of nurse but CMA ,ANM are still working as Nurse thus there is no difference between Staff Nurse, B.sc, BN nurse. There is very limited scope for Nursing manager, Nursing Researcher,Nursing Administrator , Nursing Scientist in Nepal.

Many Nurses or nursing students plan to move abroad so they don’t complain much about the exploitation of their labor by hospitals since most see their jobs as temporary. Hospitals, doctors, Nursing colleges are making tons of money but their backbone; nurses are always underpaid and not given much importance and recognition they deserve. This is the sad part about Nursing in Nepal.

Talking about job prospects, it is relatively easy to find a job since turnover is high and many nurses move abroad leaving positions vacant for new applicants. The scope of nursing be it Bsc Nursing, staff nurse, BN is increasing with increase in number of hospitals, care homes and clinics.
